I've done a lot of research on 2012 and here's the scoop.
It's not an end date. The Mayan calendar doesn't end that date nor does it predict humanity will be extinct. What happens on 12-21-2012 is that the calendar rolls from 12 Baktuns to 13 Baktuns (like ours going from 1999 to 2000, except that a Baktun is 396 years long). On that date there is also a once-in-26,000 year astronomical alignment at dawn between the Sun and the Milky Way and the horizon which signifies the birth of a new Sun and therefore of a new world age.
Read "Maya Cosmogenesis 2012" by John Major Jenkins for a lot more on this subject. Read my 2012 article on my Jaguar Nights blog or my regular website for other information on that day.

You realize that when the year ends we throw away the old calender and get a new one, or on some there are year after year so we just keep the paper up until it is to the last one and then throw it away. Well, maybe we just have not found the next page of the Mayan calender..or looked on the other side for the next year???
As for the good Major..well, we are all entitled to our opinions, and he does make tell good stories.
He and Art Bell have written some good books and have some ideas that do make you stop and think.
But all things being fair, "the end times" have been a threat for man kind ever since someone figured out it could happen.
Remember, Jesus the Christ based his new religion on this theory!

I dig Art Bell and George Noory too, but I take what they say with a grain of salt. I'm AGAINST the end of the earth, but it'll happen regardless. (in 2billion years when the sun goes nova) The Mayan calendar's mathmatics could be a simple dead end in their system. It presupposes that they have knowledge of future events, and created a mathmatical calender as a countdown to that event. I'm not sure of Ed Dames' "kill shot". Does it refer to the possibility of an asteroid strike? If so, it's a real possibility. We learn of most near earth crossers only after they've passed our orbit. As it is, we could only have a couple days warning before we're hit with a "dinosaur killer". Or minutes warning. Knowing we could be hit by a planet buster five minutes from now is a quick way to madness. LOL. best not to dwell on it too much.

The end of the world?Bring it on!!!And when you said under details that Ed Dames said we would be extinct in 6-7 years, that is totally too soon!!! I would only be 19 or 20!!!We wouldn't even be in the 21st century yet!!!

I'm glad I won't be around to see it since it will be when our sun goes Super Nova and gobbles us up. That will be Billion's of years in the future. Now the end of "man" will no doubt be alot sooner since we enjoy killing our neighbors. But who knows? Maybe a rogue comet will knock a very large asteroid out of orbit in the asteroid belt and it will smash us into little bits. It's a dangerous Universe out there so we may be toasting the end right now.
