will they think I'm crazy? The thing is, I have been here for over 4 years and am never sick - i have about 78 hours built up...

Does anybody ever do this? I mean - it's MY sick time that I have earned, does that mean I have the option to do what I want with it? I know it seems crazy - I'm just in a bind and it seems like a logical solution to my problem, to me.

Can I legally use my sick time if I am not sick?

I don't think they will think you are crazy. It will just depend if that is their policy or not. Chances are it isn't. I am actually surprised you have been allowed to build up so many hours. Most companies have a "use it or lose it" policy once the year is up.
It wouldn't hurt to ask but I am guessing the answer will be no.
Good luck! It sucks being broke!!

they world probably not do it, what you could do is ask them for the time off so you can get your sick pay but still work the time some companies do this, so the workers do not lose their sick time

ask them for a small advance, use your sick leave as collateral, might work
