Again... Depends on where you live. Washington State has recently started requiring an additional endorsement for trikes and side-cars, in addition to the regular motorcycle certification.

Here's the correct answer. It depends on your state, but generally the answer is yes, you need a motorcycle license. However, when you take the test you can use the trike to take it... at least in IL anyway.
