I know there's a lot out there but I'm looking for one that is the least vague, most cost-efficient, most comprehensive and of course, most effective. Please be specific. I need something beyond just the vague basics.

I recommend the following:
1) "One Up On Wall Street", by Peter Lynch, former very successful guru of the Fidelity/Magellan Fund
2) "Investments...", by Graham. A classic.
3) "Investments, Analysis and Analysis" by Francis.
1) and 2) are classics, available in (most) libraries. Look under (Dewey system code) 332.6 and are free to borrow.

Motley Fool. It's the bible for newbies when it comes to investing.
