what happens to teenagers if they only have a permit and drive (without a license, obviously) and get caught by police? i think just you cant get your license until your 18 right?

i live in ny, and i am no longer a teenager, this is not my problem, just trying to warn a younger cousin

If you mean by being caught, like being pulled over by the cops, well with just a permit you will most likely just get a warning or a ticket. I can only see a warning depending on what you did. But if a parent or no one who is at least 18 with a license isn't in the car with you then I just see a ticket and your permit being taken away. ALong with the possible not getting your real license till 18.

I think they would have to have an adult with them if it is with a permit. If they drive with a permit and have no adult with them, I believe its the same as not having a license...and they would probably in some places either get a ticket or be arrested for a misdeameanor for not having a license.

Legally that depends on where you live. Apart form the law, they can kill themselves and others because they lack experience and they can get in a lot of trouble with their parents, lose the trust and respect of others and generally wish they had used common sense in the first place. Don't do it kid - really bad and dangerous idea.

I think that it depends on the officer they could suspend until you are 25 in some states. Be easy Sweety!
