Not a viable one. It's been tried. The Democrats and Republicans have the game locked up.

It is possible that a new party will develop but our system will inevitably revert back to a two-party one. It has happened in the past. In 1800, there were Federalists and Democratic-Republicans, or Anti-Federalists. By 1840, the two main parties were the Democrats and the Whigs. The Republican Party was founded in the 1850's and was actually the more liberal party at the time.

Not likely...Both parties need all their members to battle against the other side. If the Conservates split from the Reps, Democrats would take over. If Liberals split from the Dems, Republicans would take over.

What needs to happen is both parties moderate members should join and form a 3rd party, then the Cons and Libs would be in alot of trouble.

A third party tends to split the vote of the "lesser of evils" party and the least desirable choice wins the vote. Better to select the best candidates from both parties

In recent history, Ross Perot came the closest in the 1992 election (at one point he even lead in the polls). But most politicians stick with the much safer democrat/republican party since a lot of voters will only vote for "their" party.

I think it's very possible within the next few elections of our country to see the two- party system go by the wayside.

We have third party candidates quite often.

The media gives them little or no attention and they are not invited to the debates so you hear very little about them.

There are already several other parties ... we just don't vote for them in any meaningful numbers.
