He knew my paypal address and he sold some stuff to a guy on ebay, the $4000 USD was sent to my account, he said he was going to send the merchandise to the buyer, but he never did, he just pocketed all of the money, he is not my friend anymore. Now i cannot use my paypal account because the buyer got a refund, so my account is negative 4000 USD, I wanted to sue my friend but tthe lawyer said it would cost 1000 USD to get the money back, I dont know what to do, I am very upset at my so called friend and I want to get him back...I called the police and they said they couldnt do anything, so what should I do, my parents don't know about this and I dont want to beat up my so-called friend because then I will get arrested. Please any advice will be helpful.

Address the issue directly with Paypal's resolution department. they will be able to assist you or at least give you direction.

Question, though, how did he get the money out of your paypal account? How did he get your password? Sounds a bit hookie to me.

Bottomline, it is fraud and a federal offense. Get advice from Paypal on resolving this as soon as possible. Additionally, I would close whatever credit card/checking accounts you have linked to the paypal account since he likely can get at those as well.

He STOLE $4,000 from you ... is that what you call a friend? Turn him into the police and get a lawyer to sue him for the money. If you cannot find a lawyer who is willing to get paid ONLY when you recover your money, then try small claims court.

Be careful in choosing your friends in the future and NEVER let anyone else have your passwords or access to your accounts.

I agree with the small claims court suggestion. It's cheap and if you win, I believe your "friend" would also have to reimburse you for court costs.

put a hit man on him to break his legs if he doesn't pay you.

of course, that'll cost you more money.

Never ever give out your passwords to anyone. Even a friend.

good luck
