It depends where you have it & what your pain threshold's like...
I got 1 on each shoulder which didnt hurt much at all but the 1 on the top of my foot REALLY hurt.
Basically it hurts less if you've got more flesh on the area you're having it done...ie your bum wont hurt but I can guarantee the top of your foot is agony!
It depends on the pattern & size too...I got a heart which stung a bit on the edge but didnt feel anything when they filled the middle in but the 1 on my foot is a butterfly with v.intricate detail which felt like they were tattooing into the bone.
If you really want 1 the pain wont put you off...despite my latest being the most painful I've been planning my 4th since I got the 3rd.

It's pretty hard to describe - mainly because anything comparable is also likely to never have been experienced before. If I had to describe it though, I'd say it feels like running a razor blade over your skin. Not deep enough to scar, but deep enough to draw blood. Not just once, of course, but many times.
You also get different sensations from different areas - I had the most uncomfortable sensations when the needle passed directly over bone and tendon, kind of a 'nerve twitch' kind of pain... like hitting your funny bone, but not as sharp.
Believe it or not, it's not that bad. You pretty much go numb after a while.

I think it depends on where it's being done. For instance, I have a semi-large tatoo on my lower back that didn't hurt AT ALL. In fact, it kinda felt good, like when you have an itch and it feels good to scratch it. Before I got it people told me that it was going to be very painful. I also have a little heart above my belly button, it's not even an inch big and I almost left the place with half a tatoo because it hurt so bad! And lastly, I have what I call my "Tat-Toe". It's my tatooed toe ring. Once again, the guy told me that it was going to be very painful, turns out it only burned a little. So I guess it all depends on where you get it and what you pain tolerence level is.

It depends on your pain tolerance; and where you get the tattoo. I have 2 tattoos... my daughter's names. One I got on the back of my neck & the only time it hurt at all was when he was going over where my spine was. It felt kinda tingly; didn't hurt really. The 2nd one I got over my heart & that one hurt a little, mostly like a bee stinging you for a few minutes. Nothing unbearable. I've heard that the center of your chest, your calf, and your lower back are the worst places (pain wise) to get a tattoo. I wouldn't know though, as I don't have one any of those places! :)

Im not really sure but aparently it goes numb after 5 minutes or so. My mum has heaps and she says that the first one hurts and the second hurts just a bit and then you get used to it for the next. It really depends on what size tattoo your getting and how long its going to take. Its best to start off with a small one first though.

I don't have one, but my boyfriend describes it as 1000 needles going in your skin all at once. It hurts. On a scale of 1-10 10 being the worst he ranks it a 6. He says it hurts worse in certain areas than other places. He says he would do it again. It's not that bad.

It doesnt hurt. It does get really hot though. It feels like someone is taking the very fine tip if a needle and rubbing it really fast over your skin. The best part is when they're done, they rub it with this stuff that makes it feel really cold. Tha tmoment is worth all the discomfort.
But its really nothing to be worried about, it just feels hot and prickly when they're doing it, and then a little like sunburn for a few days. Just as a word of warning, they're terrible addictive. I got my first one on my 18th birthday and I've gotten one every 6 months since then. Im going for my next one pretty soon!

A small needle is going in and out of your skin at an incredible rate, imagine that. Now giving the area, private, sensitive, on a body area. There is really no concrete answer to how it feels for everyone is different. Some people (Like myself) enjoy it. It stings like a hundred bees to others. The needle penetrates a few layers of skin. It isn't etched on your skin, ink is imprinted in your skin. It feels like pulling a hair one by one. I've heard it feels like having you skin ripping from muscle, and or a sun burn. Like I said, everyone is different.

Depends on where you get it. I have five (so far) and the one on my lower back only hurt when he went right over the spine. Take about 10 pins, hold them together and poke yourself, that's what the most painful spots feel like. Otherwise, it felt like he was drawing on my back with a ball point pen. It was almost relaxing. The one on my tummy hurt the whole time though. It depends on how many nerves are situated under your skin in a spot, and how much fat there is over the spots too. Closer to the bone, the more it hurts.

It feels like sandpaper Is being rubbed across an open sore if the tattoo is a big enough one. If it's small it's just a little irritating.
