Yes. All the sides are microwaved in plastic bags. I used to work there.

Don't look poorly upon Applebees since most restaurants use this technique.

Of course they do. Applebees is a corporate owned chain. If you taste their food you know that it is not done from scratch. I do not enjoy any corporate restaurant, but I love small privately owned restaurants because most of the time their food is cooked fresh. My absolute favorite is the Villa Santa Monica in St. Augustine, Florida.

Yes they do. So do a lot of other 'corporate' restaurants.

If you want a fresh meal, find a privately owned restaurant. I worked in the business for 20 years and let me tell you, it's chemical slop they decorate and feed you at most of the corporate restaurants. Don't be fooled by an open kitchen, those flaming meats were all pre processed, frozen and thawed (microwave) before being "cooked to order" in front of you. Don't fall for it.

I've eaten at Applebees twice - the first time was really horrible but I figured I'd give them a second chance. There won't be a third. Ugh!

Most restaurants do. If you want fresh food, cook it yourself or hire a private chef. Freshly prepared food in a restaurant is expensive.

We do for sides that have been preportioned, just to heat them up. As far as cooking other stuff, usually its fried, cooked on a grill (steaks, chicken, and ribs) or on a flat-top (quesadillas and stuff like that).
