If you are a religious person then your beliefs tell you that no it's not an eternal sleep. People are scared of change. Ask a women who has been beat on for 15 years "Why do you stay there?" Her answer will generally be "It's the best I can do" or "what if I leave and things get worse?" People like to stick with what they know change can be scary. People won't look at it like it could also be the best thing that could happen in the long run.

Death scares people because of the mere thought that it is in fact, eternal sleep. You'll never open your eyes again. You'll never kiss another person, have another fight, go to work, learn at school, take showers, eat. You'll be dead. You'll be gone. Never to walk the face of the earth again. When a person starts to wonder about these things thoughts come to mind such as, who will be brother marry, what will happen to the world? I'll never see anyone or anything again.
Also, people fear what they don't know. This fear also incorporates the fear of death because truthfully, we wont know where we'll go. At last we'll find what heaven, or even hell really is. Maybe we'll be watching over the world or maybe death is just another stage of your life. We'll find that out when we die, and some aren't ready to find it out.

Not everyone is afraid to die. In some cultures it is an honer to die for your country, your loved one, or any cause that may be seen as honorable. Other cultures believe in re-incarnation, while others believe that you go to a better place. Most people are afraid to die only because death has so many unanswered questions. You have to find a place for death in your life one that makes you comfortable with it. Some will see it as a final goodbye while others see it as a new beginning.I would suggest you look at other cultures and see how death is viewed for them. This may help you to find a place that is good for your and your beliefs about death. It is one the one thing that man has not been able to defeat. this is something everyone has to do. sooner or later. I would do my best to accept that it will happen.

If you don't believe in heaven (like me), you're answer is simple. Because it's not an eternal sleep...its more of an eternal...not being anymore. And that sucks. Once your conscience winks out, you may have a couple minutes of being in a dream like state, and I hope when I'm there they are a few damn good minutes, because after that, you're time is over. Enjoy what you got. If I'm wrong, well, let's just say that I'd be overjoyed if I were wrong.

the part we are scared about death is that we will be parted from our loved ones and family and never going to see them again. well atleast not in a sense of a family. most scary part about death is that nobody knows that how painful is it to die? death is eternal sleep for our bodies which one day goes ashes to ashes. but for our spirits, it's not.

I think the fear for many is more of "dying" than "death". We hear many stories of people suffering greatly before they leave this world. What lies beyond is anyone's guess, but I'm of the thought it's not anything horrid...at best it's lovely, at worst it's simply nothing and death is the absolute end.

Because death is final. And we don't like to committ to one thing for any length of time. our society is one of instant gratification. Why else would we have about 600 TV channels, 15 major running shoe companies, 100 car companies etc.
