I tried both and they both throttle the movies. We know Netflix does it for sure. Blockbuster says they don't but they do.

I had 7 movies on Blockbuster that had a wait. I canceled my subscription for 3 weeks and renewed it and the same movies still have a wait. Plus a movie will show available then change to wait.

Which is better and why?

Netflix is slightly better than Blockbuster since it has more titles and delivery is a bit faster. However, if you live near a Blockbuster Video store - Blockbuster offer you a better deal - you can take advantage of the free in store rentals, 1 free rental each week. From my experience - if you are a new customer, the chances are you will get most of the DVDs you want. If you see a long wait on your queue, get another free trial with a different credit card and email, you will notice the same DVDs are available to the new account.

Most people rent about 11 DVDs a month. If you rent more than 13 DVDs a month, delivery will certainly be delayed, especially with new releases.

I live in Alaska and Netflix took 5 days to get a movie here, Blockbuster only takes 3. I get free rentals from Blockbuster.

Blockbuster is incredibly lame and slow. It's hard to get anything good from them. I had both for a while at 3 at a time and got almost twice as many from Netflix. Netflix kinda sucks but I'd give them about an 8 and Blockbuster a 1.5

I like you have tried both. Blockbuster is better if you have a store near you because they give you the coupons for free in store movies. However, I find the shipping is slower and I don't always get the movie I want.
Netflix ships quick but they are had to get ahold of if you have a problem.

Netflix.
I've been with them for about 6 months. They have a pretty fast turn around but it helps if you live in/near a city where they have a warehouse. I live in KC and I can send back a movie on Monday and have the next one on my queue by Wednesday.

I rent movies from my public library. They have new and old movies free, as long as you have a library card. The library carries VHS and DVDs.
I have never used any online movie rentals. So, I couldn't tell you which is best. It is easier to go to the library and get them free. Me: if I don't have to pay for it, why pay.

I prefer Netflix. They have never let me down, and continue to offer great customer service.
