Whether your teacher "has the right" is very different from whether she "is right" in telling you that you dressed like a prostitute. In the former situation, she probably doesn't "have the right" to say so since we are such a "politically correct" and overly sensitive and neurotic culture. Someone, somewhere has said, "Oh, you'll be injuring that poor young girl's sensitivities, and she'll be traumatized for the rest of her life if you say something she is doing is not right or not good for her", and they got enough other neurotic idiots like themselves to agree with them, and then they got a rule made that said teachers don't have the "right" to say such things. Now the question comes down to, is she RIGHT in saying such a thing. May be! It's a matter of taste or style to some degree, but it's a matter of wisdom and care even moreso. Not many people have what it takes to REALLY be different nowadays because everybody's so driven to be "in the in crowd" as the saying was in the 1950's, so, despite what they see and hear that they KNOW is bad for someone else, especially a younger person who OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T KNOW the ways of the world, they're too afraid to come out and be the reliable and caring adult to help the more inexperienced younger person do what it best for them. They haven't got the guts to be an adult!!! So, in this country of "rights", does you're teacher "have the right" to say what she did? Probably not. This gutless culture won't allow it. Was your teacher right in saying it? Well, . . ., she may know a helluva lot you won't figure out for a long time, no matter how smart you already think you are, but she's probably right in saying what she did. And you know what's funny? Some day, when you are REALLY an adult, many years from now, you'll actually thank her for saying so, and actually be pissed at those whimps that didn't stand up to you and tell you, "Go home and get dressed, and come back when you've figured out how to do it." I do wish you the best. God Bless you.

To suggest that you were dressed like a prostitute is a matter of opinion, and everybody's got one. There's nothing wrong with criticism! There's nothing wrong with you even inquiring: was that an observation based on experience!

For a teacher, such opinions are important because there is a point when as a young woman you may attract too much attention and thus become a class if not male distraction!

In my school days guys had to wear shirt, tie and jacket year round, and girls in class could show no cleavage and wore skirts only below the knee! Times have changed but the old idea was to teach school in the kind of environment that will be expected of you in a professional college educated setting. Pro outside of Japan do not mix business with pleasure!

What you had on is not considered casual dress, the traditional requirement. It's sports-wear and your teacher who is probably from my generation is probably still suffering culture shock on this issue.

As youth, we all wore thing that shocked the senses of our elders, it is natural expressive and part of a continuing cultural evolution, however truth be told many of the droopy draws fashion with oversized shoes and tinted hair can actually be found on the loony-toon cartoon characters from my generation and that is somewhat disturbing!

No, that was not an appropriate statement to make, because it makes a judgement on your character, not just your fashion sense. If your teacher felt that your outfit was inappropriate to the learning environment or was disruptive to the class because it was far too revealing, she should have said that and made you leave and change clothes (most schools do have a dress code, though they don't really make you read it to attend school) If you feel hurt or insulted by the remark, I would refer it to your principal, because she crossed the line.

She shouldn't have said that. As a teacher, I might not like what my students wear, but I would never call them names such as this.

If you were dressed inappropriately or against the dress code, she should have simply sent you to the office. Your parents would have been called and you could have been brought clothes to change into. Alternatively, the school office might have old clothes that you could have changed into for the school day. Worse case scenario: You got sent home or had to spend the day in in-school suspension if there weren't clothes for you to change into that met the dress code.

If you clothes were within the dress code, nothing should have been said to you.

I would tell your parents, and schedule a meeting with the principal, your teacher, your parents and yourself. That comment was totally, completely out of line and borders on sexual harassment. Even if you were breaking the dress code, she has no right to speak to you in that manner. She is supposed to be a professional, and teaching is her job- she needs to learn how to behave professionally. Don't let her get away with it- who knows what she will say/do to the next student.

That doesn't sound so bad, especially with so many young people out there who actually do dress like prostitutes. Maybe your teacher buys a lot of prostitutes and just happened to see one wearing something similar to your outfit.

no, it's not right. Teachers don't really have a sayso on what a girl or boy should wear. Its the parents and obviously, your decision. And reasonable judgment would state that your teacher is a prick and probably a pedophile for looking at you that way.

No it's not right.
If you've followed the dress code for your school, she shouldn't say anything. If you were out of the guidelines for your school dress code, she should have taken you aside or sent you home. But no comments, especially one like that.
