The egg had to have come first. Sure it wasn't a chicken that produced the chicken egg, but through evolution, everything came from somewhere from a point, so maybe a chicken originally came from some kind of ancient bird specie and evolved into what it is today?

i say it was the chicken, and i've had this argument with a friend of mine. the reason it has to be the chicken is cuz 1)God created the animals 1st. 2nd) how can a chicken hatch from the egg if there is no chicken to produce it, and the chicken has to keep the egg warm. so how can a egg come first b4 the chicken???

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a cigarette, with a satisfied smile
on its face.

The egg, looking a bit ticked off, grabs the sheet, rolls over,
and says "Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question."

I agree with Beth G.

The egg came first. Dinosaurs were hatched from eggs long before there were chickens.
Fish came from eggs *much like today* long before there were chickens.
Reptiles came from eggs, long before there were chickens.

Plenty of other creatures had the egg thing going long before any chicken walked or clucked on the planet

The egg, of course. As the species evolved there came a point where a proto-chicken laid an egg that contained the first ever "true chicken".

The "egg" of course. Dinosaurs were hatched out of eggs long before chickens walked the earth

The Egg. The chicken is a result of a mutation from whatever animal laid the egg.
