Yes they are. People can say all they want about physical starin and whatever, well sorry but they chose to do that. It is physically and mentally strenuous to do a lot of real jobs but people don't get paid thousands of pounds a week. All "celebrities" are overpaid. These footballers do nothing but play a game. Something a small child can do.What do they really do for their money? No more than anyone else wanting a good fitness regime. So they only "work" twice a week, do they. Even if they have to retire in their 30s, they will retire with more money than anyone wit ha proper job who retires at age 65. There are people who have to go through physical, emotional, academical training to get where they are and still get paid less in a year than footballers get in a week. As for the publicity, if they don't want it they can either not play the game in the first place or they can just avoid it. Rugby players managed that when England won that. Also, saying about the publicity and everything, that's like saying you want to be a childminder but you don't want to work with children. You know the job before you go into it so there is no excuse. Nothing can possibly justify the amount these people get paid. They may entertain a few but I would be more entertained at my son's school sports day.

All we read about is the people who make it not the people in other divisions who get a couple of hundred maybe thousand week some nealy less than minimum wage so kind of just stereotyping footballers in general. Footballers wouldn't get that money if the fans didn't go to see them and buy the jerseys etc. They provide a service where one minute they are heroes and the next can be worse than villains so when one misses a penalty in the next big match and himself and his family get death threats and publically hounded then ask are they overpaid

Yes I do - but I'm just jealous. So do pop stars get paid too much? It's just the way it is celebrity is big money no matter what you do. That's the 21st century. They also make a lot of money from sponsorship deals and advertisements. There is more than playing football in a footballer's life. It's what most of us dream about having the lifestyle of a footballer. I'd love the money not the fame. Even just a fraction of the money enough to be comfortable and not have to worry about money for the rest of my life that's my dream.

Every person should get paid what they are worth. Footballers get paid stupid amounts of monies as clubs are seeing players as their assets. Every successful companies keep their assets happy. Footballer are overpaid but do not put all the blame on them. Thinks about the clubs and agents. They are grossly overpaid by us(the public).

i really think they are over-paid and over-rated..taking into account what the yput back in to the game..there is probably exceptions to this but only a few...if you take a look at american baseball players- yes maybe you think they are overpaid too but the majority of them give a lot more back to there communities and to the fans of the sport..most of them give up a lot of there time to help and fund local charity events and schemes to help the poor and neglected areas. and also they give a lot more back to the general fans of the game.they give many interviews and chats to the media where as our footballers tend to shun the fans by giving token after game interviews for 5 mins and show no interest in doing more.i know some are indeed involved in some charity work but not to the same degree and time. i just think they should be giving a little more back into the sport and not acting like primadonnas which seems to be the case.

Not just footballers, but any professional athlete. They have jobs they love. They have a lifestyle most of us can not even imagine. Because of their celebrity and the money it generates for corporations they very seldom get in trouble for doing things that are blatantly illegal. Then on top of that they get oodles of $ for playing a GAME! There is no justice in that.

They (I think) believe that they need lots of money to live for the rest of their life, but at what cost? Some of them are so badly injured while playing that they are crippled for the rest of their life.

Is there a solution--yes. When the paying public refuses to attend the games and buy the merchandise to fund the corporations and the money machines it will stop. No corporation will continue to provide huge salaries for non profitable functions. Will this happen? No--because the public wants their entertainment.

Gossly overpaid.
The celebrity status some have achieved is ridiculous also. After all it is a sport which kids at school play in the playground. Its not life & death.
If anyone deserves the attention & money it is surgeons etc. who actually save lives.

Hmmmm, I have a hard time justifying running up and down a pitch with 21 other guys, chasing a ball for 90 minutes and getting paid obscene amounts of money for doing it. Ok, I know they have to train, make public appearances, have strict control of their diet, exercise etc.....but at the end of the day, they are doing a job and one that they love....most of them would prob do it for nothing (yeah like that would ever happen) as it is what they have wanted to do since they could walk.

How many of us can honestly say that we have a job that we love, have a great time doing it, get to spend loads of time with our mates and get paid more money in a day than most people earn in a year....hey, if you can do it...go for it...I know I would, doesn't make it right though, does it?

Yeah, I agree!!!! I think the money could be better spent in areas of poverty. All they do is run up and down a field with a ball for 90Min's. We do that with a dog and don't get paid for it!! Why can't they receive a normal wage like the rest of us and have to save up for little luxuries like a holiday or a car instead of getting them free just because they kick a ball!! I can kick a ball - pay me!!!

I personally think the wages are too high!!
but you cant blame the players...if somebody offered me 100 grand a week to play for chelsea i aint goin to turn it down so why does that make footballers differant from us..they r only human after all.
And then i could retire after a couple o months and live happily ever after.
