Does the chicken's body make the shell and fill it with the white and yolk, or does it make the white and yolk and then wrap the shell around it?

The yolk is made, then the white, then the membrane, then the shell.

If this process is interupted early on, then it will start over again and a new yolk is produced. This is how double yolk eggs are created.

If you think of it like a human embreyo, egg white is like placenta. The embreyo (yolk) is formed first, then given the nutrients it needs (white), then wrapped in a protective shell.
