the email that you got is called a 'phishing' email. never, ever reveal details to anyone either via email or telephone. a genuine company will only ask you to confirm your name and address and possibly a password but never anything more personal than that. and to be fair a fraudster could get those details from the phone book anyway (apart from your password that is). if you're unsure then ask them to give you a clue as to your password. the company will not be breaking dpa (data protection act) if they prompt you on your password and that way you can be sure that the caller (or email) is genuine.
remember, a company who has your bank details etc, already has them so they won't need you to confirm them. you definately DO NOT need to confirm those sort of details for dpa.

Yes I received a proof of payment from Paypal for an item that I did not purchase saying that I had sent a secure payment for $385. I nearly freaked I knew I never had enough to cover it. There was a link on the email saying if you dispute this payment click here - which stupidly I did. (Found out later from ebay never to open a link in the spoof email) There I found a form requesting all my personal details to allow the payment be refunded back into my account, which I though was a bit odd and then seen the request for my pin number for my bank card - thats when the penny finally dropped it's a scam. I sent the email to ebay and they confirmed it was a spoof email.

Ok what are the emails about? and I'm lost because no details were provided as what the emails pertained to. If you've never sold anything on ebay then just report the emails to paypal and ebay and you're fine. If they are calling you and harrassing you, you need to file a police report. You need to make a print of each and every one of the Emails and FWD to the authorites when you file the report. that should atleast stop some of this mess, and do not send 1 penny of money to anyone. even if they are threatening you.

Yeah I get those all the time, just remember Paypal will never ask for you details in a email. So if you get a email asking just delete it.

Steer clear of any emails asking you for personal details and account details. It is spoof!
I got one the other day from Barclays asking me to confirm my pin and account number - wierd because I don't even have a Barclays bank account!
You also get loads of emails from 'wealthy' South Africans asking you to use your bank account to deposit millions of unclaimed money!
I wish!

Paraphrasing what Paypal says:
Paypal will never send you an email asking for your personal information.

I did too and I responded to it! Whoever they were ended up charging $300 on my debit card, luckily my bank took care of it before the charges went through!
