DUH!!!! Sounds like a definite over-heating prob...
I suggest that you not run your computer VERY long at any one time until you fix the prob
There's a couple of solutions here...
The BEST solution is to open your case up, look at the fan on your CPU, and make sure it's spinning....If it is, take a closer look to make sure the heat sink (the thing the fan sits on) is clean and free of dust bunnies...If it is dirty, which they usually are, there are usually 4 screws that hold the fan on....CAREFULLY remove the screws, clean the sink & fan, remount the fan, and you should be good to go....
IF the fan is not spinning, remove it as stated above, take the fan to a LOCAL computer shop (not BEST BUY,etc), and ask for a replacement fan...Make sure the fan power plug is the same as the one you have now. Clean the heat sink, remount the fan...and off you go....
The OTHER solution is to go into your BIOS (if your system is a BRAND NAME, it's usually the F2 or F10 key, or just hit the the DELETE if your system is a "built" box), find the PC HEALTH menu, go into that, and look for the CPU fan speed...if it shows the fan is NOT spinning, then go to the step above....
Note that running your system for very long without a CPU fan can/will result in your CPU overheating and damaging or destroying it....
A decent fan will run you anywhere from $6-$15 depending on the size of it....It's also a good idea to go in and clean your fan and heat sink every 6 months or so just to avoid the same prob you described....
Good luck......

Check heat sink. Is it properly fixed? Fan is working corrcet? Thermalgrease is applied? R u using AMD? Which board u r using? Remove Processor & see Is it feel Overheat? If not there is the monitoring divice in board. try updating the bios. Not ok? Disable that option in bios.
