This year, the Yankee's payroll is $194 million compared to the Sox at $120 Million.
Those numbers are not close at all. The Red Sox only spend 60% of what the Yankee's spend.
Last year the difference was even greater as the Yankee's spent $208 million and the Red Sox $123 Million.
That $70-$80 million that seperates those two teams is greater than the salaries of over half of the teams.
To say they are equal couldn't be more wrong.
If you made $60,000 a year and your friend made $100,000 a year, would you say that you made the same amount of money?
The real question is why do the Yankee's continue to spend way more money than anyone else and still either lose or fail to make it to the WS for the past 5 years to teams that spend far less money than them.
Doesn't George Steinbrenner realize that you can buy talent, but you can't buy chemistry? The reason they dominated the 90's was because they had role players like Oneil and Brosious and Girardi. They were all tough guys and clutch players. They have much better players now, but no rings.

And a question for you, Yankeeboy, what was the biggest choke in sports history? Hint: it involved the New York Yankees in 2004. Another hint: Does the name Big Papi mean anything to you? How about Dave Roberts stealing second? Or Bill Mueller slapping a single past future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera? Or, well even you get the picture.

The Red Sox will win another World Series before the Yankees do... New York is done -- they won't win another Series until Steinbrenner sells the team... Spending too much money on players that are old and generally past their prime is not the way to build a champion...

I am pretty sure there must be some team who has never got a ring think about how their fans feel. I am from Florida so I would not know.
May be Red Sux should have had Cubans on their team 86 years ago.

It is because that the team didn't have good talent from good players. It can't be a curse. In 2004, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, and Pedro Martinez improved well to win the World Series.

Luck is it. If they would have won a game here or there, they could have been in the playoffs. If another team would have lost a game at some point, they would have played a weaker team. It is all just chance.
