Number the boxes.

Take one coin from box 1; two from box 2, three from 3, etc.

Weigh the whole pile of coins.

They will weigh less than an even number of 10 grams by a certain unit number. That's the number of the bad box.

Take one coin from box 1, two coins from box 2, three coins from box 3, and so on until you get to 10 coins from box 10. The total number of coins is now 55.

If ALL the coins were 10gr, the total weight WOULD be 550g. But you will be short by a number of grams equal to the number of lighter coins. For example, if the scale shows 546g, that means you have 4 coins that are 1g too light. Since you took 4 coins from Box 4, that is the answer.

Number the boxes 1-10. Take 1 coin out of box 1, 2 out of box 2, and so on, to 10 out of box 10. Weigh all 55 of those coins together. If all of them weighed 10 gr., then they would total 550 gr. Take the weight of 55 coins, subtract their weight from 550, and divide by 10. That number would be the number of the box.

Place 5 boxes on one side of the balances and the rest of them on the other side. The side with .9kg will become apparent. Remove one box from each side until the weight on both sides becomes equal. The box you remove last, from the lighter side, is the one you are looking for.
