You raise an excellent question because coriolis forces caused by the direction of the eye with respect to the spin of the earth are very important in organizing the storm and its direction of rotation and natural rotation is reversed on opposite sides of the equator. However, hurricanes have been known to stall or even reverse direction before continuing. The hurricanes take enormous quantities of heat from the warm sea water and build up organized momentum that may have a life all its own. When you let water out of bath tubs, there is a natural force (coriolis) that spins the whirlpools in opposite directions north and south of the equator; but you can start the whirlpool in the wrong direction buy hand and it will continue due to momentum.

The hurricane would dissipate if it did cross the equator. But, it wouldn't be from the spin being disrupted. There is very little wind and water currents on the equator. This is because of the Coriolis affect. The winds get to the equator and turn back into the hemisphere they came from.
The hurricane would just be stationary for a couple days. In that time, it would break up, even though there would be enough water vapor.

theoretically i suppose it might be weakened by you understand that it isnt possible for a hurricane to cross the equator right?
the very forces that cause a hurricane in the first place prevent it from crossing it

I do not think so, because the effects of the (huge) upper atmosphere. The patterns of wind might be temporarily disrupted, but not entirely overcome only because of the crossover.

A hurricane has certain characteristics. it is a hemispherical phenomenon. it wont cross equator.
suppose if it crosses, its will not wither away but the direction of wind will become simply anticlockwise.
