Imagine, if you will, that vision never existed in the world. Nobody would know what color another person was, or that there was even such a thing as "color". Do you feel that RACISM would still exist, in such a scenario?

OH WELL...hope someone finds it, anyway! :)

I knew this one would conjure up the idiots from their closed-minded stupor.

maybe I need to define RACISM -- it is the preference or belief that one race -- RACE (meaning the ethnic group one belongs to) -- is superior over another.

Many of the "answers" have dealt with other types of 'isms' -- sexism, elitism, and so on. Few of you have answered the question as to whether or not people would still judge one another based on a person's ETHNICITY/RACE.

Does anyone out there understand the actual question??

I appreciate all the comments on this question. When I use the term "racism" -- I am referring to a person's RACE and nothing else. Many of you provided awesome answers, but were geared toward elitism, socialism, and all kinds of -isms apart from the subject at hand, RACISM.

Still, it's been a fun ride. I'm thankful to the handful who took it seriously enough to offer thoughtful insight. If I could close the question out myself, I would do it -- but I have to let it sit there for 24 hours...oh boy...here we go!

Peace :)

no, because if you could not see, you would base your opinion on other senses. so the sense of racism against a color would not exist, but against other things it would.

Yes it would still exist and that is because racism is not only about color.

For example in Europe the dominant population is white and all European nations are considered white. Also some decades back there were no immigrants from other continents. Racism existed and still exists. For example north Europeans believe that south Europeans are not as civilized as them (they make noise and are not controlling their felling that much etc). South Europeans find the north Europeans to reserved and cold-hearted etc.

Now as an example take a nation for example Italy. The north Italians do not like the south ones because they are poor and consider them in some way inferior. The south Italians consider the north Italians arrogant etc.

Now consider a classroom. The goof students are the smart ones, the popular students are the cool ones the reserved and shy students are the fricks.

Unfortunately humans do not fell comfortable with something different. They prefer not to use their brains to understand the other person and they put labels.

Someone could argue that this is discrimination and not racism. For me both of them have the same origin, work with the same way and they have the same results.

some people are crazy this is what would happen they would say i am more blind then you

i watch a lot of television and i notice that even if you are the same people will find a way to hate for an example i make more or my car/house is better your clothes is not better looking then mine

i think you understand where i am coming from, it kinda hard when you are typing, but i like your question finally something that is not stupid ot hateful or just plain immature

thanx

p.s. i was watching the "fairly oddparents" and i found this one episode very interesting, timmy wished that everyone was the same since these two guys were picking on him about his teeth (they are big) and his wish was granted so everyone was a grey blob and timmy was still not accepted because they claimed that he was not grey enough. hilarious now that is a classic

now i think that you can understand what i mean

Racism is hate is agression and is ignorance. Without vission maybe there could be racism on hearing, on the type of voice. The essence of Human beings is based on whats inside /feelings, experiencies, dignity/ rather than the exterior....People who hate existed, exists and will exist always, as people who love and respect. Some individuals are in both sides some others learn to change for good....Racism for me is a sickness of the Soul and Culture.

Probably. People seem to beleive that they are all better than eachother, when really we all have the same intentions. Even if you don't beleive that right now. It's true.
If people still knew where they came from, like a different country than America, some Americans would be like "your country is poor, i can't talk to you, because your not from a nice country." Vision or not, there would still be racism. But pray to God that it will all end. One day we will all be living in peace.

I don't think the media is responsible for racism but it is responsible for perpetuating stereotypes, which is more linked with discrimination (from underrepresentation to exclusion to invisibilisation!). Racism is hatred for individuals based on the belief that they are inferior as a result of their racial traits, which are seen as fundamental to what they are as human beings. To say that the media is responsible for this hatred does not consider that racism is the result of a mix of historical, social, political and cultural events that have determined societal structures and fundamentally, the way power, legitimacy and credibility are articulated and allocated (for instance, wars that led to colonialism, where societies were imposed class systems, and cultural networks developed that perpetuate messages about who is who/what in a specific context). Also, to say that the media is responsible for racism is a generalisation that overlooks that the media has had an important role in highlighting instances of racism, at times also providing the forum for challenging it. So there... my very short (and incomplete) opinion on a very broad (and complex) discussion! It would be good to hear your opinion.

Racism is a type of war. It is not simply an adverse reaction to another groups appearance or behaviour or other differences. It took cunning and effort to create the illusion of superiority that justified slavery.
The bias and ignorance that we have today are the result of this illusion. It's a scar.
Racism can exist anytime one group of people decides to take power over another.

Yes. Racism is not about color, it is about perception. We use all of our physical senses when evaluating a person. If we could not see his color, we would be able to hear his voice, smell his body odors, touch his skin and even be able to taste him. What our senses communicate to our mind is how we perceive another person. We are taught to form opinions of other based on how we were raised, where we were raised and the environment that we live in as adults. I hope that I have shed some light on your question.

I don't think racism depends on color as remember the Nazis who were German persecuted all sorts of "White" races (disclaimer-I believe that there is only one Race and that is the Human Race). So I believe, as I have asked this question myself, that it wouldn't matter if we could see or not, we would find ways to hate each other pretty quickly.

yea cause then people would hate others with deep voices and high pitched voices. The only way there wouldn't be racism is if there were no sense's. Touch smell taste sight hearing basically there will always be racism in any scenario...

2006-06-20 07:42:57 · answer #10 · answered by Rob H 2 · 0 0

yes it would still exist because of other ways in which we can sense or feel each other(hearing, smelling).for hearing some people can have different or funny voices and different or weird smells which distinguishes them from others and so racism would gradually start all over again.....funny..but i think the only way that racism ends is that each individual or human would live alone by himself in his own universe..........but now another problem will arise i.e. lonliness and isolation...can't we ever have a world in peace and without problems??!!!!........
