This is actually a pretty common. You may have a case of pregnancy gingivitis. Pregnant women's gums have an increased sensitivity to plaque, which leaves them red, swollen, and prone to bleeding. To keep gingivitis from getting worse, brush your teeth at least twice a day, for two minutes each time, and floss daily. Your dentist may also recommend using a toothpaste that contains Triclosan, an antibacterial ingredient that helps protect your gums. And try to have your teeth professionally cleaned every three to six months.

More frequent cleanings will help prevent plaque build-up.If you have a serious case of gingivitis and stepped-up tooth care isn't providing relief, ask your dentist for additional treatment suggestions, such as prescription mouthwash. Fortunately, the condition usually resolves itself after the baby is born and your hormones return to normal.

Congrats on the pregnancy, and ALWAYS ask your doctor too!

When I found out I was pregnant my dentist warned me about pregnancy gingivitis. Basically your hormones are creating all kinds of changes in your body, and your gums are very sensitive. My dentist recommended that I make sure to massage my gums with my toothbrush. He said to make sure to brush and floss at least twice a day and to use a soft tooth brush. I also use listerine (sp) to help burn up some germs.

Here's a site that explains the condition... Hope it helps!

I think this is a pretty common problem during pregnancy. My OB/GYN recommended that I go to the dentist more frequently during my pregnancy. Perhaps your dentist can suggest something? Or do more frequent cleanings (every three months). Good luck! Happy pregnancy!

I had the same problem the more you cleaned the more your gums would bleed. My doctor had said its because the baby is taken all from you. When I was pregnant the doctor had given me calcium pills maybe your doctor can give you calcium pills that can help.

I had that problem with my first pregnancy. My gums acually bled during the 2nd and 3rd trimester. It stopped and my body got back to normal after I had my baby.

I had that all through my second pregnancy. I gues it's because of all the extra blood ciculating through your body. All I can say is it will go away after the baby. Best wishes
