1)There are thirtysix possible combination of dice of which 10 are equal to or greater than 9. Therefore the probability is 10/36 or 27.8%.
2) There is nine socks and only one with the correct number at that point. Therefore the odds are one in nine.
3) x=-7/3
4) x=-1
5) x=-3

5/36 Ok I guess I have to explain how I got the answer because it seems a lot of people who are answering this question got it wrong. Altogether you have 36 different possibilities when rolling 2 dice 1/1 1/2 1/3 1/4 1/5 1/6 2/1 ...... and so on but out of all 36 there are only 5 that have a sum of 6 1/5 2/4 3/3 4/2 5/1

As for the first problem (What is the probability of rolling two dice and the sum being greater than or equal to nine?), here's the answer:

First of all, how many possible combinations of two dice are there? That would be 36, six possibilities for the first die times the six possibilities for the other die.

Secondly, how many ways could you get a sum greater than or equal to nine? Here are the possible combinations:
(first die, second die; sum)
3,6; 9
4,5; 9
4,6; 10
5,4; 9
5,5; 10
5,6; 11
6,3; 9
6,4; 10
6,5; 11
6,6; 12

That's a total of ten ways. So, using the probability formula (number of favorable occurrences/number of possible occurrences), we get 10/36, or 27 7/9%

6,3 or 3,6
4,5 or 5,4
6,4 or 4,6
5,5
5,6 or 6,5

Since you have 2 dice, the probability of getting 2 exact numbers is (1/36). Since there are 5 different ways to getting anything higher than or equal to 9 and to way to get 4 of them, you get

(8 + 1)/36 = 9/36 = 1/4

(1/4) possiblity of getting anything higher than or equal to 9.

I didn't include 5,5 twice, because they are the same way forwards and backwards.

1.)
since you have a pair of each sock and a total of 10 socks in all, the possibilty of getting one of the colors is (2/10) or 1/5, take one sock out and you have 9 socks left, and since your trying to get a pair, you only have 1 sock of one color left, and therefore you have (1/9).

The probability of getting a pair of socks is (1/5)(1/9) = (1/45)

ANS : (1/45)

-----------------------------------------------

2.)
beta = 180(n-2)/n
(900/n) = 180(n - 2)/n
900 = 180(n - 2)
900 = 180n - 360
180n = 1260
n = 7

I used the formula from http://mathforum.org/dr.math/faq/formulas/faq.regpoly.html
beta = 180(n-2)/n

Beta stands for the measure of the interior angles, and since the sum of the angles is 900, i had to divide 900 by the number of sides "n" in order to find the measure of the interior angles. So that is why i put it like (900/n) = (180(n - 2))/n

7 sides each measuring about 128.57142857

-------------------------------------

3.)
2x - 3 = 5x + 4
-3x = 7
x = (-7/3)

-----------------------------

4.)
5(x + 2) = x + 6
5x + 10 = x + 6
4x = -4
x = -1

-------------------------------

5.)
2x + 1 = x - 4
x = -5

there are 4 possible combinations to make 9 exactly -- six and three, three and six, five and four and four and five. In addition, there is four and six, six and four, five and five, five and six, six and five, and six and six, all greater than nine. therefore, there are 10 possible ways to make two dice equal or exceed 9. The probability is therefore 10 in 36, or 5 in 18, or 27.8%
