Like everyone said, depends on your cash flow.
I'll give you a couple of pointers, working @ various points of my life at area restaurant and hotels (Embassy Suites, Marriott Courtyard) your cheapest times to book rooms are from monday-thursday. Saturday is the most expensive time of the week, you may pay 100 thurs, 150 friday and 300 for sat (just samples). But it goes like fourfold on saturdays. Be careful with the ones that are on River Road, on the map they may look close but some of them are way up there (Days Inn) among others, same deal with ones on Lundy's Lane, some are way in the "boonies". I wouldn't pass Montrose Rd, if you were staying on the Lundy's Lane. The public transportation here has three "lines" that make there way down to the falls, and you can get a day pass, they run fairly late to, I believe 2 am.

I might be bias, from previously working there, but I think that the Courtyard by Marriott is a good choice, reasonable, close to Clifton Hill, Skylon kinda in the centre of it all....no tall enough for a view of the Falls though, well maybe the 10th floor. Basically in the centre of everything if you stay there. It is right on the curve of where Ferry Street turns into Victoria Ave.

Useless info for you: Lundy's Lane turns into Ferry which then turns into Victoria, one street 3 names.

Have fun :)

P.S. Don't use expedia or travelocity they charge you booking fees.....they have to make there money too. Call the hotel direct or use the 1 800 number sometimes you might catch a special rate b/c you talked right to them, or you may get upgrades etc.

That depends on your budget and whether you want to spend a lot of money just so you can see the falls out of your window. I have been to the Falls about 5 times and always stay on the Canadian side, usually a few blocks from the falls. I suggest you use Expedia.com or Travelocity.com and search for hotels that are just a few blocks from the falls on Stanley AVenue, Murray Avenue or Lundy Lane. Check the link below for a map. Rooms in these hotels will be significantly less than those overlooking the falls. The further away you stay, the lower the price. If you go out Lundy Lan a couple miles you will find even lower prices, but then you have to find and pay for a parking place near the falls.

You will be able to park at your hotel and walk just a few block to see all of the attractions.

It totally depends on your budget but Marriott has a few properties in Niagara Falls so if you have a Marriott Rewards card you might want to consider them. Sheraton has at least one property there that I know of and then there are some of the other chains like Days Inn and Rodeway Suites that have locations right by the falls.

Hope that helps.

You'd better stay at Niagara Falls, Canada. Hotels are way cleaner and there is alot to see.

Obviously it depends on your budget.

I stayed at the Sheraton Fallsview in '95/'96 (don't know if it's still called that) but it was the closest to the falls with great views and the staff were really nice.
