I don't know what grade you're teaching, but in 8th grade when we learned about the Battle of Bunker hill, we re enacted it with water ballons.. That was fun. We either brought trash bags, or a change of clothes.

I'm not a student anymore, but my high school did this thing every year where all the kids went out and did something for Earth Day. Like, some picked up trash, some planted trees, etc. And there were about 1,000 kids at the school at that time, so it can be done at a mid-sized school. It's some of the most memorable times I had at school.

The coolest activity I've ever done at school is playing volleyball at P.E. We didn't actually playreal volleyball, we just throw the ball and catch it, and that's the kind of volleyball people should do.

Actually I can't remember, but if I were a teacher... I would have every student pull names out of a hat, show it to you only and YOU KEEP THE PAPER THEY PICKED. Tell them not to tell who they picked, it's a secret. Only the teacher gets to know who picked who. Write a list of the class then write next to the name who picked it(for your records). This should help keep them in line, and from being rude. Then have them write their own name at the top of a piece of paper, and something that they like about that person, and why the world needs more kids like the one they picked. Make sure to tell students prior to writing that who wrote it will never be revealed. When all completed, placed in a hat or box. Read all of them to make sure appropriate. And have them correct anything that may be inappropriate or mean, explaining how that may make them feel. Then teacher reads them aloud to class, never saying who wrote it. Everyone feels inspired =)
