The play by Alan Bennett was called "Madness of George III" The film was called "The madness of King George". There was a commercial reason for the change of name - anyone know why?

Urban Legend: The producers of the film were less-than-convinced of the intelligence of their American market, so they thought calling the film "The Madness of George III" might confuse Americans into thinking there were 2 other "Madness of George" films before it :)

Yep. The legend runs that prior to release they did some test showings to US audiences, and had some negative reactions about the fact that nobody had seen parts I or II. Seems odd, when they could have simply changed III to "the Third", but that's the reason taht was bandied about certainly - nobody understood it was the monarch's number, not the movie's.
