When I go to Vegas, which is a couple times every year, I do some of both. When I go in the fall/winter I spend a bunch of time gambling in different casinos. The great thing about Vegas is there are so many casinos that if you are not having any luck in one, you just walk next door or across the street.
When i go in summers I like to hang out at the poool area for a significant part of the day. All of the major hotels on the Strip have great pool areas. Like MGM, Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo which all have wave pools and lazy rivers in their pool areas. The Flamingo has a water fall and a water slide. So I stay at the hotel with the best rate that has a great pool.
Vegas now has a lot of penny slots which are much like video games. So you can play all of the lines of the games for 15 to 25 cents a play. That will make your money last longer if you just like gambling and don't want to blow a big wad.

well most casinos are in the hotels...so you can do both. but more than likely (seeing i was just there a few days ago) i would prefer to spend my time laying out by the pool...then get some gambling in at night :)

i'm under 18 so...stay in the hotel. if i was over 18...gamble at a casino.

With so much to see and do in Vegas I'd vote for getting out of the hotel. Check out the different hotels and if the mood strikes you while you're in one, drop a few coins in a machine... never hurts to give Lady Luck a try!

Stay at the Star Trek hotel, and send my girlfriend to play poker. I'd go site-seeing, while she cleans out the rubes. lol.
