Watch the movie Caddyshack. You can learn from Bill Murray. The best gopher killer in the history of Hollywood.

You'll need a gopher trap. You should be able to find them at the hardware store (a local store like Ace or True Value will have them for sure).

So here's the materials you will need:
Gopher trap
cord or thin rope (about 6 ft)
wood or metal stake
Bait (peanut butter is the best)
Plywood (about 2 ft by 2 ft minimum)
Disposable latex gloves

First, open up the area around the gopher hole to expose the tunnel. Next, wearing the disposable gloves (because you don't want your scent on the trap), tie the rope/cord to the trap, then bait the trap with the peanut butter. Set the trap as deep into the tunnel as you can reach. Cover the hole with the plywood, and tie the the other end of the cord to the stake driven into the ground about 4 to 5 ft away. Wait a couple of days and check the trap. Rebait if necessary, and leave again. If you got the bugger the first time out, great. Now rebait the trap and do it all again. There may be more than one. Keep doing this until you go for a week without any more gophers. This method has worked for me for years, so it should for you too. Good luck.

My neighborhood is infested with chipmunks. The only way I have found to lower the numbers is to trap them using a baited trap than disposing of the varmint. I use sun flower seed as bait. This works well.

Good luck.

My neighbor has an attachment that he hooks up to the tail pipe of his car. At the end of it you attach your garden hose. Find a fresh path that the Gopher has gone in and stick the hose in. Run the car for 30 min to an hour. This would also work for moles. Not sure where he got this device but I'm sure you could rig something from parts at Home Depot.

I don't know if it's the easiest way but you can use a live trap that you place underground where the puppy can't get to it. It doesn't harm the gopher, you can just catch and release

Basically you wanna use a granular form of castor oil, starting closest to your property, house, etc... and gradually working themn away from your property. Hey, everything I've heard from him has always worked best.

The easiest way to control them is to put several of those insecticide pills (containing P) that farmers use to prevent grain infestation inside of their caves and cover them with a shovel.
That is a cheap way to control them and is harmless for anyone that walks over them.
