If you mean how do you type music notes and hearts in a document, like a word document for example, then do this. Type Alt+13 (i.e. hold the Alt key down and at the same time type 13 using the numeric keypad) and you'll see a music note symbol. For the heart, type Alt+3.
Hope it helps,

In a word processor there are usually other fonts. Like in Word, click Format, then scroll to the fonts like wingdings and others that do pictures, select the one and check out which keys do the things you want. For instance, in webdings, shift-Y gives stylized heart shape. Using the bookshelf symbol font, the letter x will give the type of heart that you would expect to represent the one on a deck of cards. Then just change the font size and apply things like bold, italics, and color.
An alternative is go to accessories, then system tools, then look for something like character map. Good luck.

http://dwight.clickthesky.com/internettips/specialcharacters.shtml
also search for ascii art and ascii emoticons
you can also download a program that will turn your photo into colored ascii characters. i'd tell you where but then you wouldn't have the fun of searching for it. :)
