And why? I think its intellegible and what you can understand is filled with anger and hatred. Its a basic spin off of heavy Acid bands of the UK. Which are also weak musically.

For the most part I disagree with you. I don't think any form of musical expression is worthless. People vent their emotions in different kinds of music. If you were a little more open minded you would see this in rap, along with the heavy acid bands. It may also depend on what kind of rap you are listining to. A lot of the crap on the radio is pretty worthless. It is over produced with no emotion or talent in it. They just want to make somthing popular to make more money. An example of this shyt is Nelly's Lemme see your Grill. I think that song is pretty worthless. But just because a few songs are bad doesn't mean the whole Genre is worthless.

Any form of musical expression has worth- you clearly are NOT a musician - some people back in the day during Mozart's time thought his music was the worst ever created- I find your question myopic and insipid! Have some knowledge: Hip hop music (also referred to as rap or rap music) is a style of popular music. It is made up of two main components: rapping (MCing) and DJing (audio mixing and scratching). Along with breakdancing and graffiti (tagging), these compose the four elements of hip hop, a cultural movement that was initiated by inner-city youth, mostly African Americans[1] in New York City, in the early 1970s.

Typically, hip hop music consists of one or more rappers who tell semi-autobiographic tales, often relating to a fictionalized counterpart, in an intensely rhythmic lyrical form making abundant use of techniques like assonance, alliteration, and rhyme. The rapper is accompanied by an instrumental track, usually referred to as a "beat", performed by a DJ, created by a producer, or one or more instrumentalists. This beat is often created using a sample of the percussion break of another song, usually a funk, rock, or soul recording. In addition to the beat other sounds are often sampled, synthesized, or performed. Sometimes a track can be instrumental, as a showcase of the skills of the DJ or producer.

Hip hop began in New York City when DJs began isolating the percussion break from funk and disco songs. The early role of the MC was to introduce the DJ and the music and to keep the audience excited. MCs began by speaking between songs, giving exhortations to dance, greetings to audience members, jokes and anecdotes. Eventually this practice became more stylized and became known as rapping. By 1979 hip hop had become a commercially popular music genre and began to enter the American mainstream. In the 1990s, a form of hip hop called gangsta rap became a major part of American music, causing significant controversy over lyrics which were perceived as promoting violence, promiscuity, drug use and misogyny. Nevertheless, by the beginning of the 2000s, hip hop was a staple of popular music charts and was being performed in many styles across the world.

All rap isn't angry and hateful. My favorite rap album is Nia by Blackalicious. It's a beautiful expression of love and social awareness. But the stuff they play on the radio is usually ignorant garbage -- just like most genres of music mass produced for the lowest common denominator. It's prety lame, imo, to make broad generalizations based on uneducated personal opinions. All genres of music have the potential to be art -- and art can raise awareness and reach people's psyche's in a way that nothing else can.

What!! Are y'all crazy. For one rap is not a spin off no $#@! heavy acid or what ever the hell it is. Rap is just like any other type of music. They just explian what's going on in the world better than all other genres. Don't hate, appreciate what rap has to offer. Just because rock is dying and country sucks does not mean that rap is worthless. So to all of the people who don't know, rap is a " spin off" from the blues, duh!!!!!!!!

if you listened to anything other than the crap they play on commercial radio you might appreciate it more. there are a lot of artists out there who make quality music with thought provoking and policitally conscious lyrics (none of which are from the dirty south). People seem to overgeneralize rap way too much. Rap has a complete spectrum just like every other genre, but commercial outlets only support one small niche. I agree that a lot of the stuf you hear is absolute garbage, but if youre interested at all in the genre you have to dig deeper than what the mass media shoves down your throat.

some of our grandparents felt the same way about rock and roll. just because you don't like it, doesn't make it worthless. it began as a form of verbal expression for young black urban youth. i can't understand 98% of heavy metal lyrics, but i don't think it's a worthless form of musical expression. All rap is not angry or intellegible, look at the fugees, will smith, some of kayne west, rundmc, poor righteous teachers, nelly, just to name a few.

i don't like ANY music that's full of anger or vulgarities, and in many cases that does describe rap.

i'm sure there are some decent rap groups, but the genre just doesn't do anything for me.

even some of the music i like is hard to decipher, just have to read through the lyrics once or twice.

just a thought to ponder on...if rap music is so worthless as a musical expression...then why is the rap artist worth millions and why are so many people listening to it?.......

I don't think any form of musical expression is worthless because it means something to those it represents. It may be worthless to you but that doesn't mean it's worthless altogether.
