For situations like these you just reload your Operating System ( in your case Windows ME ). While reinstalling the OS most of the files which are corrupted or missing will be repaired or replaced accordingly.

Or else if you can locate the file in your backup, try to replace the corrupted file. Doing this manual work is riscky. You need some expertise to do this. The first method is no risky way but that consume a quit a lot of time to reinstall the whole OS.

Wish you all the best. Have a nice day.

it would be alot easier if you knew the file you were missing because then you could get your Windows disk and transfer the files from the CD to your computer. But locate your Windows disk anyways and put it in and restart your computer. Go through the repair process on the disk but make sure your computer is either backed up or you dont have anything that you arent willing to lose in there.

ME has a lot of bugs. You should Install XP or 2000. So, go out to BestBuy or osmething and see if you can buy a Windows 2000 Professional CD if you can buy Windows XP Home Edition or Professional and install it on the Thinkpad, but make sure that you format the hard drive befor installing the new Windows.

millenium edition is the worst operating system microsoft produced. it has more bugs in it than all the others combined. get 2000 or xp. any one of them is better than that one.
