I think the whole concept of "sex(y)" is out of control, every day that goes by there is less left to the imagination. I think an adult can answer for themselves for how provocitive or revealing they want to dress. But to allow your 11 year old to dress that way just because it's a trend amongst teens or adults is the responsiblity of the parent. I'm not sure my daughter will be wearing thongs until she's at the very least in high school. Which when I get to that point with her, I'll try to hold off as long as I can.

Yes, fashion is spiraling out of control and I think the media is to blame for this. Young girls see their favorite singers, movie stars and television stars dressed in next to nothing and they think that's how they need to dress to be cool or accepted or think it will make boys like them more or will make them look older. In reality, all it does is make them look cheap and easy, which is not the message a young girl should be sending to boys in Jr. High and High School.
And I don't think this is a problem exclusive to America. In our age of satellite television and the Internet, this idea that a woman has to dress like a hooker to be sexy is reaching a world-wide audience. People in the entertainment industry should take a look at the message they are sending and make some adjustments. Yes, sex sells, but should it? I can understand this "sex sells" principle when applied to rated R movies and pornography, but in the music videos that little girls watch on MTV? A line has to be drawn and MTV execs KNOW who watches their programming.
Unfortunately, there's no way to stop this problem and it doesn't seem that anyone really wants to try. Oh, we'll track and hunt down sex offenders and move them away from schools, but no one seems to think we need to police the fashion world.

Definitely.
This question applies to the rest of the world not just confined to people in the US.
We, females are heavily pressured by society's impossible standards to appear slimmer, fairer, taller, etc.
Fashion of course feeds off of that & so does the media. These include images in fashion magazines, mostly that depict women they deem as "ideal".
I think we (women) all should be aware that these so-called images are "air-brushed" and edited before printing the final product.
It doesn't help that some female artists give out subliminal messages that to get attention/ ahead is by dressing like a s l u t.
However, having said that, overall fashion should be treated as a form of self-expression just as long as women conduct themselves respectfully.

Yes. For males as well as females. What happened to dignity? I will say that at my more advanced age that I hate having something crawling up my crack like a thong.. I am tired of seeing other people's underwear or cracks, and heavy people showing their flab.
P.S. I don't like seeing the top of thongs either. Whats wrong with bikini underwear , especially on younger children.

I think it is wrong for little girls to dress that way, they should look like children in my opinion. I am only 21, but when I was a child, I dressed like a child. As far as fashion for adults goes, no I do not think it is out of control, I think it just keeps getting better. I study fashion in college, and hope to make a fine career out of it. Only some say that I myself am not fashionable, but I like the way it looks on other people.

I don't think it's out of control. Due to the low cut (waist area) of jeans now, you almost have to wear thongs. There is nothing more tackier than having to view underwear, especially on an 11 year old. It's also tacky to see panty lines. Thongs are also more comfortable. That's all it is is underwear. :) Better thongs than nothing at all. EEEWWW

I think what the media portrays to these young girls is outta control! And parents need to be more aware of what their daughters are wearing and reading and watching... As someone who works in fashion i know there there are many ways to look stylish and amazing with out being skanky looking. So my answer is no its not outta control BUT what is outta control is the magazines and the celebrities out there that these kids look up to!

I think so...clothing seems to be slowly ceasing being functional and becoming purely ornamental. I live in MN, and even in the dead of winter girls run around in little belly tops and such, as they see girls in Cali doing on TV I s'pose. Duh, it's -10 out, ladies!!! The only thing that seems to be important to a lot of people now is to be sexy, BLATANTLY obviously bikini-type sexy, not subtle and well dressed sexy. Sad, really. I almost envy guys, the standard seems totally different for them. Their clothes seem to have gotten cooler and more laid back, if anything.
