You need to get a good filter and a surface skimmer. When putting in a new filter you need to have lots of filter cloth in side the filter as the bacteria and algae have not grown inside the filter and more cloth is needed for the initial stage

First off, I saw several people here recomend Petco for fish questions. Don't go there. I worked as a reptile specialist there for 4 years, their fish people don't know Jack. Secondly, as far as the 'fizzy tablets' and 'clearing drops,' they're only temporary fixes. Also, don't clean the tank right away just because it's cloudy. Ride it out. It'll clear up on it's own after a few days. Try adding a product like Cycle, which is basically a culture of all the beneficial bacteria which process ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates out of the water. Those are what are causing the water to have that milky cloudiness. Don't use products like AmQuel or espesially Tank Buddies. Tank Buddies release a lot of CO2 (Carbon dioxide) into the water, making it harder for the fish to breath. If, after adding a product like Cycle (Check the label), the water still doesn't clear up, you may want to change your filter media, and make sure the top of the tank is securely closed so that no dust can get in.

I hope this helps you!

Do not "clean" your aquarium. Only do weekly 25% water changes with a gravel vac. If your water is unclear, add more filtration, aquaclear filters are pretty good. Finally are you overstocked. 1 in per gal of clean filtered water for fish under 3 inches.

First of all do you have a filter? If you do, then buy these tablets that are called WATER CLEAR TANK BUDDIES. Drop one in and watch it fizz. It usually turns your water slightly purple at the beginning but in about 24 - 48 hours your water is crystal clear. It worked for me. This is of course if you've already cleaned your tank, and it still looks foggy.

Make sure you have a good filter system running properly. Add some fish water conditioner from the fish store and make sure you add the proper dose. Make sure none of your ornaments are causing the problem. You might want to check them out and make sure they are suitable for water. Also make sure you are not overfeeding the fish, because it will cause cloudiness if you are. Not to mention it could kill your fish.

I bought a chemical at WalMart that worked well. What it does is cause very small particles that are not being trapped by the filter to attach and that makes them more 'trappable'. You can also get a power sponge filter. Good luck!

If the cloudiness is sort of white its just free floating beneficial bacteria. It should go away on its own. If you try to get rid of it you can actually mess up your cycle and kill all your fish.
