I know I ovulated on the 18th, just like I predicted according to my cycle. I had mittlesherwtz, pain on my right ovary and on the right side of my lower back. Do you think the chances of his sperm surviving about a day and a half are good? Do you think I got pregnant?

My next period is due July 3rd. I have a 29 day cycle.

The chances are good but not definite. That is, 48 hours is about the maximum time that sperm remain viable; depending on what time on the 18th you actually ovulated, there is a small but definite window during which fertilization could have occurred.

The reference site I post here also mentions that the egg remains viable for about 24 hours after ovulation, so it may or may not be worth unplugging the phone (if you know what I mean...) if you're trying to get pregnant. However, if your cycle is that reliable, you might want to see if you and your husband have any vacation time that you could use in about 26 days.

Best of luck! And if you care... statistically, if you ARE pregnant, there's a better than 50% chance it's a girl, because of the time between insemination and ovulation. X-bearing sperm (which produce girls) don't swim as fast as lighter, Y-bearing sperm (which produce boys), but they remain viable longer -- it's the old tortoise-and-hare thing. We have two girls and a boy, and I love them all -- but I will never forget the feeling of "falling in love" with our first daughter in the delivery room, when she squeezed my finger as they were cleaning her up.

Sperm can survive 3-5 days in a healthy, friendly environment. You have as much chance of being pregnant as any other couple, which is to say about 20%. The odds might be a little better as your timing seems pretty good. :) There is no guarantee that you "got pregnant" however...only time will tell.

Test once your period is late. Test in the morning with a sensitive brand like FRER or Equate. Good luck!

this info is from a New England Journal of Medicine study:

Among healthy women trying to conceive, nearly all pregnancies can be attributed to intercourse during a six-day period ending on the day of ovulation.

as to sperm life this is from the mayo clinic:

Sperm ejaculated into a woman's vagina remain alive in the mucus of the cervix and are able to fertilize an egg for three to five days. Sperm ejaculated outside the body usually live only a few hours.

You might have. I think sperm can survive 2-3 days. When is your period due?

Sperm can actually live for longer than 3 days, so yes, I guess it would be possible.
