Can anyone tell me about the shopping in Chinatown? Is it anything like New York 's Chinatown? I've heard about New York's and would like to know about Chicago's! Please email me at lsfgrandma@aol.com so I can ask some more specific questions. Thanks!

Chicago's chinatown is like a lemonade stand compared to new york's, jk. Really, it's not new york, but chicago chinatown has a few shops and a number of restaurants to choose from. Check out the the Chicago chinatown vistor's website or metromix.com . If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me.

Chicago's Chinatown is smaller than New York's Chinatown, but much cleaner and wider streets. the main streets are cermak and wentworth, this is the older section of Chinatown, which runs for about 3 blocks to the south on wentworth and 1 block to the west on cermak.
there is a newer section called Chinatown square, which is 1 block north of cermak and wentworth. there is also a Chinatown on the north side of Chicago on Broadway and argyle, this is more off a Vietnamese influence.

Like other people said, Chicago's China town is pretty small: Basically one street that runs north and south, and a portion of one street that runs east and west. There's another sort of "Chinatown" on the north side of the city around Argyle Street. It's pretty small to and mostly restaurants. The one on the South Side has a little more shopping areas. But i guess it depends on what you're looking for.

It's somewhat like... but it's really only a block and then a strip mall across the street. The shopping is not as good. You just don't feel like you'll be getting the kind of great finds that you would in New York or SF. but in all honesty. why don't you make a list of how much you are going to be spending on the trip and what you are willing to spend on things you buy ..food included. and compare it to the deals on Northwestern or Korean airlines right to hong kong or Guangzhou, China. In the winter you can get some REALLY low fares to asia. and once in Hong Kong (did I mention you don't need a visa for HK?) those really cute tea sets or feng shui compasses that cost $50+ in chicago are about 1 to 3 dollars. You dont have to spend $100's a night on rooms either. Kowloon has nice simple places for $20/night if you shop around. don't limit yourself to Nathan rd either. but ok...you asked about chicago...
