"I think a wizard powerful enough to stop Voldemort wouldn't stand there and let Snape kill him. They say that because the spell was lifted from Harry that Dumbledore is surely dead, but isn't the WHOLE BOOK BASED ON NONVERBAL SPELLS?!?!? Wake up people! lol...Dumbledore is a master wizard...don't you think he could manage a nonverbal; spell? And don't you think it odd that his body wasn't displayed at the funeral?!@!?!?!?11one!"
1. If Snape were to truly believe that he killed Dumbledore, wouldn't that prevent him from being killed? If he knowingly broke it, he would have died. 2. In Potterverse, portraits are NOT only of dead people. Don't you remember Dumbledores chocolate frog card? He was movin around on that, and he was certainly alive and healthy then. 3.I DO think Harry must go on by himself, just like in Philosopher's Stone! Like the end when end when he left Ron and Hermione and did it alone? Neither died in that book, remember?!

I don't know. Only JKR can resolve it on Book 7.

Personal opinion. He's dead and it will be talking from the portraits. It's a used plot device that has worked, and she hasn't really pulled massive twists before. Sorry, Mark. :)

It's possible that DD could have nonverbaled a release spell. That's up for debate. Your second point doesn't hold. While there are portraits available, DD's office is special. It only contains portraits of old, dead headmasters. When he goes up there, he's probably dead.

People die and life moves on. It's a valid plot device and Book 7 could definitely work either way. I'm sure people have good imaginations. It's up to the author to decide which path to pursue.

And don't forget about the "draft of the living dead" from the first potions class. Why would that be brought up if it wasn't going to be used? It certainly explains how Dumbledore could LOOK like he was dead.

I don't want him to be dead for the simple reason that it is so trite. Gandalf dies & comes back as The White, Obi Wan dies & comes back as the voice of The Force. If Dumbledore is really dead but talks to Harry through his portraits, I will just be annoyed. But if this is a ploy to get get Snape to be more trusted and keep Malfoy alive so that he can be set on the right path -- well, then that can be entertaining.

Dumbledore is def. dead. Why go through all the trouble of faking a death? I think Dumbledore and Snape had an agreement that if the time ever came, Snape would have to do whatever it takes to keep his cover. Clearly, the time came and Dumbledore was not begging for his life, but begging Snape to do it. Plus, how many times has Dumbledore said that there are things worse than death?

He's dead. Get a grip. I am sure it will all come out in the wash. It may even be that his non-verbal spell was to command Snape to kill him to save his cover. But either way, ding-dong dumbledore is dead and buried.

yea i dont think hes dead either...at least not yet.

but then again jk rowling said she would kill off a character.

maybe she took the idea from lord of the rings when gandalf looked like he died but didnt and became more powerful instead.
