People, in general, believe in God because we need to believe in something bigger than us. The thought that there is nothing to help us, to give us justice, to reward us when the world ignores us is to painful to contemplate. Also, The Governments (all of them) want us to endorse religion as a way of solidifying social mores and expectations. Ex: Why shouldn't I kill my annoying neighbor? Because "thou shalt not kill. As children, we believe in our parents, as adults, we have God, though God has many faces. To some people Money is God, because with it they have power to do more than they could without it. I guess we all believe in something that empowers us. The most common one... is God.

so, you have no solid proof of a lot of things. that's not a good enough reason to not believe in god. if you only believe in things with solid proof, man, you must have a pretty boring life. && if god didn't create us, who did? don't say evolution, there's no proof of monkeys turning into humans, either. besides, a good believer in science wouldn't dismiss ANY theory, no matter how ridiculous it sounded to them. and maybe there is sorrow, but why do you only notice that? aren't there a lot more good things in life than bad? hmm? bad things are caused by Satan and man's sinful nature. god's there, so he doesn't do everything for you, so what? i believe in god and i am VERY happy, even when bad things happen, they don't get me down. whereas my dad doesn't believe in god, and he seems sooo unhappy all the time. isn't it comforting to know there's always someone there for you? when the world turns against you, you still have God, who will NEVER turn on you, even when you turn on him.

1st: What harm can come of believing in God? If you live your life like the Bible says, and are happy, where is the harm.
2nd: Any arguement saying, well what if you find out God doesnt exist when you die, is pointless. If God doesnt exist, then finding out wont exist since you cease to exist.
3rd: I'd rather have a God that doesn't interfere in everyday life, than a God that can't leave use alone.
4th: No solid proof? Solid proof in itself is A. Hard to come by, B. Sometimes wrong. Faith is what allows people to believe in the existance of God, proof is meaningless.
Doubt this solves your dilema, but hopefully it helps a little.

I don't believe in God, But I have Faith in God.because Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe.
Sometimes things happen to you at the time that may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles you would never realize your potential, strength, will power or heart.(as said God always resides in ones heart, so the power of overcoming is given by God.)
Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of luck. Illness, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test limits of your soul.
Without these small tests, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless
And God gives us these sorrows and happiness so that we remember him ,and one thing people mostly remember him in times of difficulties and sorrows and these things aren't there forever so you see God helps us in solving them.

1. There's lots of things that scientists teach that we have no SOLID proof of, just theories, that people choose to believe. So, why is so odd to believe in God?
2. Why can't we believe God created everything?
3. Bad people do bad things because they CHOOSE to do bad things. We all are responsible for learning to control how we respond to our problems, we can't go through life blaming others for our actions. It's that mentality that breeds 'bad' people.
4. Just because God created the universe, and each of us, doesn't mean he treats us like puppets on a string, that would be pointless. He lets us CHOOSE to believe Him, or not. To CHOOSE to be nice to others or put ourselves first. To CHOOSE to be 'bad', or 'good'. Why is so hard to accept that there are consequences for our sin, when we have consequences for our children's sin? It's not like there's any surprises, He tells us the wages of sin is death, plain and simple, so we shouldn't be surprised. To me, I'd much rather CHOOSE to believe in a God, in a heaven for those who accept Him, and to follow what He says I need to do thereby putting others first, making choices that are healthier and safer for me and my family, rather than to choose not to believe Him and do what I want. I'd much rather find out I was wrong about God and heaven existing, and knowing that I lived a life to be proud of, one in which I didn't hurt others, rather than to believe He doesn't exist, and find out otherwise. Eternity is a LONG time to be wrong about something so important.

They believe because it is comforting. Many may not know it but it dwells deep in their subconsciousness. Think about it, isn't it comforting to know that there is something after death? That is why people fear death because many are unsure of the aftermath. However, live your life according to what you think and interpret; not what others persuade you to believe. Free yourself from the shackles of conformity and open your mind.
