Well sometimes the way we dress tells a story about who we are as a person. For instance, someone who dresses all in black, with lots of peircings & hair going everywhere that is dyed black, black nail polish...etc. etc....hmm...what is that saying to me....that they are angry or want to draw attention to themselves in a negative way. We're not all the same...there are good ppl & bad ppl...moral & immoral ppl...Godly ppl & unGodly ppl...ppl that hate & ppl that love...i think you show a little bit about who you are in the way you dress. And it's not for me to judge them...I just read the story that they are openly telling.

It is impossible not to judge folks by how they dress or look. If you go into a nice restaurant and the waiter has on old clothes, you will be inclined not to eat there. If the waiter comes in a 3 piece suit, you will think that you are in a pretty high class place and feel good about it. We are all the same in some senses, but the first impression is usually lasting even though I don't know you.
I walk out my door and see a person dressed like a bum, my first impression is that he is on the board at Ford Motors???? No. My impression is he is a street person.

The way you dress or are attired shows the sense of class or culture you have. You wouldn't ask a man in a three piece suit to go clam digging or a woman in an evening gown to go surfing! Those are obvious radical no,noes but such distinctions can be very acute. Take the man in the three piece suit : Yale Brahman wear a different tie than a Wall Streeter and a good politician either wears the old school tie and knot or something very conservative. You actually do tell people allot about you by the way you dress and walk.

We are taught at a very young age to "notice" differences in people whether consciously or subconsciously. We grow and develop in a family unit of people who look the same, and when you take a child out of that element and they 'see' someone or something that is different, they are often confused. We have to start teaching our children at a young age to respect and welcome differences in people. Even in churches - the world will never come in because many of the "church" folk frown upon those who are not "dressed" in Sunday best. The outside is more noticeable than the inside. The one thing that is important is, while we should not judge others on how they look or dress, we sometimes put ourselves in that "place" when we try to "look' different than our society has established and therefore people will look at you 'funny'. As a teacher, I had to get accustomed to some of my 'gothic' students who dress in black and sported many piercings. Additionally, the young African American males who sported "gold or silver grills" (gold pieces that cover the teeth) Sometimes it is a distraction and people have to grow accustomed to the look. We are all the same - God's children. We just choose to display our own personal clothing and styles, hair, makeup, etc the way we want. (I wouldn't wear some of this to an interview!)

How someone dresses is what they decide to show the world about what they're like. I can't think of a more appropriate thing to judge a person by on an initial basis.
"Aren't we all the same"....what does that mean, anyway? Just another hollow statement by someone trying to sound profound if you ask me.
By the way, Miss Booty, what should we judge people by? Oh, I get it, we're all equal or something like that....ummm, not really...I'm gonna judge rapists, murderers, and other menaces to society until the day I die.

because people are people. We judge the world on what we know; If I've had a bad experience with, say, a "gangsta" I'm going to think that all people that dress that same way are just like him {or her}. People think that Goths are all satan worshipers {we're not; I don't even believe in satan, and I know a few that are Catholics, and some that are totally right-wing christians} that all preppy cheerleaders are bitches {not all of them, but it only takes a few to ruin the bunch} that all young people that wear suits and ties are Mormons {my boyfriend used to wear suits to high school just because no one else ever did; he's wierd like that, but he's Wiccan, not Mormon}. Stereotypes are limitless, and will always exist. As long as people are human, we will judge people by how they look, dress, or think.

You are so right.....I hate how people stereo type people or judge them before getting to know them based on how they look or dress.....It upsets me because i am a very small 24 year old girl...people often look at me and think I'm younger than i am and based on that give me no respect what so ever....its frustrating because if people gave a little of there time to get to know me they would see im no different then them....but because i look so young they automatically think they can treat me with no respect and i wouldn't know the difference.....I don't dress up often...I like to wear whats comfortable to me....but because people think beauty is spending hours doing your hair and make up and wearing the most expensive styles.....I'm not considered the stereo typical beauty.....but what they don't see is the beauty on the inside....people don't give others much of a chance .....just first impressions......but i know what my capabilities are with the beauty i hold with in :o)

OK, if we're all the same why dress differently?
Because people want to be different!
It's either gotta be a grey world or a colored world. This half & half doesn't work.
You dress different to not be the same as the masses, then don't expect to be treated as the masses. You're different & you'll be treated differently (This doesn't mean bad, poorly or rudely) just different.
You can't dress or act like a rebel and expect nobody to react to that.

No, we are not all the same. People judge others on the way they look, usualy as a first impression. How you dress tells ALOT about you. Whether you think it does or not, it tells almost everything about you. The way you look is VERY important.

Because some people are vain! My opinion is that if you have to wear designer clothes to make yourself feel good about you, then you have a very low opinion of yourself! If the people you hang out with can't accept you as the person you are, find other friends.People with money seem to think that their dollar worth makes them better than the person with less.I'd rather have a "True friend" in a pair of jeans and scuffed up sneakers than a fine polished rich person for a friend! If push comes to shove, that rich person will become your enemy!

It is stupidity. I completely agree with you. We are a taught not to judge a book by its cover, and yet we allow a person's shoes and clothes to influence our judgement.
I hate being EXPECTED to dress a certain way by everyone around me - my parents, my friends, my employer. I don't think I should have to dress up for work. I would get just as much work done if I wore a t-shirt and jeans.
