I just noticed this portion of the Yahoo! website and damn, people's grammar is just terrible. How are people supposed to answer you if you don't even know how to use the simple homophones like to, two, and too?
Not only is the bad grammar consistent with questions but answers also. If I can't read your answer, then techically, it's not an answer at all. Isn't there a "spell check" option? And on top of all this bad spelling, Yahoo! Answers is littered with the most ignorant/pointless questions.
Someone, anyone, I need a logical answer!

People have such bad grammar because the internet accepts it. There are no rules for the internet, and so people do as they wish. Whilst this is massively good on the most part, people can get away with glaring spelling and grammar errors, without a second thought.
Instant messaging is a massive cause of such communication deterioration, mainly because people can't be bothered to type out a sentace in full. Lazyness, then, is a major factor.
Thirdly, it's seen to be rebelling against the system, no matter what the system is. By having bad manners, you are seen to be Anti-Social, something good in today's youth ( I should know, I'm 15 and have to deal with this ineptitude in language daily on MSN).
It's massively unfortunate, and is killing one of the finest points of civilization.

You're not the only one that's noticed just how bad both grammar and spelling is on here. I've never seen such poor writing habits in all my life! It's one thing to use the short forms that kids use today but at least make it understandable with appropriate spelling for words that you don't have short forms for!
Now, English wasn't my favourite class in school, but, damn! At least I'm able to write a complete sentence without errors... most of the time!
As far as spelling and grammar on here... I'd have to put it down to three factors... Teachers/school, parents, student laziness.

The main reason for this consistency with a generation of illiterate/incompetent typers is most likely due to the basic lack of skill.
Many times it is not that the person asking the question, in any modern english exam, would fail; just that they have not aquired the skills to type correctly and precisely.
I am one of them, I sometimes do not bother to read what I have typed to check the spelling or grammar; usually i will just leave it.
It's a quicker way of typing really..and its becomming the norm.

I wish I could help, because this bugs me to no end as well! I can not deal with someone who has the grammar and spelling of a six year old.
If you find an answer to this, short of bumping off the dumb people, let me know, ok? =)

Perhaps people just want to answer the question as soon as possible to get 10 points to be the first one to answer so they don't even care about their grammer or spelling.

I totally agree. I can't believe all the people out there that abuse the English language. Sometimes it makes me ill reading this crap. It's mostly teenagers, which makes me think...these are the leaders of tomorrow?!?!? Ahhhh!!
On the other hand, I am much more lenient to those whose primary language is not english.

To zippy....
FYI: "can not" is actually cannot. Ironic how someone who empathizes with misused grammar makes a grammatical mistake in their answer.
Big pet peeve? Misuse of their, there, and they're. It is really not that difficult to choose the right one.

YES - it is rather a sad scene here. I just picture a bunch of pimples pounding on a keyboard, looking for answers they would have learned in class - if they were to stay off of their cell phone for 45 minutes......... LMAO
