The colourful and beautiful ones are the male and colourless are the females.

When they grow up the drake(male) is normally prettier and has more impressive colouring but if male and female are the same colour the male has a couple of feathers on his tail that curls right up and over
This is the only easy way I know.

The duckling should have green if it's a male. If it's female it should have a yellow color!!

In my general experience, when they are babies, it is pretty tough to tall and not worth the trouble. You may want to wait for them to grow up a little bit and find out what kind of duck it is and determine from there. And even then, to determine a male from a female, it will depend on what kidn of duck it is.
