if the current global population is ~6.5billion, and we conservatively assume that half as many of those 6.5billion own a computer or have regular access to internet access, then assume roughly 20% of those 3.25 billion are registered yahoo email suscribers, we get the needs of ~800 million people using yahoo services. I would guess this is a very disproprtionate estimate. I would guess no more that 100 million users are registered to and actively use yahoo accounts. Regardless, for each non-fee account an allocated 1 gigabyte storage is reserved. Thus, between 100 and 800 million gigabytes are necessary to store all mail reciepts including spam, photos, and video. It's a large range, but I believe does include the actual number.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is even though you have 250Mb (or whatever it is, i forget), they don't necessairally have to have all that disk space because most users only use a fraction of their e-mail. Also, yahoo probably compresses your email to save even more space. Its still a lot of space, but keep in mind that Yahoo is a huge company, and they can afford to buy many terrabytes of disk space.
