Our society is becoming more and more like Orwell depicted in his book, "1984". Do people really have to "tell it" on others?

Being insecure individuals, it makes them feel better about themselves to 'report' wrongdoings of others. Obviously they get the praise and attention desired. It's just one of the 'games' people play - and not a very nice one at that. I always figured that whatever goes around comes around, know what I mean? Meanness begets meanness, just as kindness begets kindness.
Don't retaliate - just ignore the mean people!

For some: Schaddenfreude (Ha ha, he got pinched)

For others: Civic Duty

And then there are the ones who just think you're an ****** and would jump at any chance to stick it to you if they got it.

It al depends on the nature of the crime in question though, doesn't it? I hope it does.

They don't have to...they get a rush. Then, when what they have done sets in...there is usually a backlash. If not, then they have no conscience (that is the description of a sociopath). Think before you speak or act is a better approach. We all need to practice more.

We are also a society that wishes to blame anyone or anything and not accept responsibility for our own actions.
