Excellent question:

My answer is Sex.

If you define sex as the physical act then showing it in a movie really does have little purpose. Sex is a relatively small part of any relationship, removing the sex scenes from any movie other than a porn flick would remove almost nothing from the story.

Violence against people is bad but showing it in a movie is something of a release, a stress reliever as it were. It is also a central part of the plot and conveys a lot of meaning to the story.

Take a scene involving sex. You spend a good bit of time seeing the people getting involved then going into a room alone and coming out the next morning. You know what happened and the story is not less for the ommission of the physical act.

Take a confrontation between a man and a woman. They are increasingly angry and suddenly we see the woman on the ground. Did she slap him and get hit back? Did he hit her first?

Nuff' said?

Probably sex, because it can lead to violence, not usually the other way around. Once someone assaults you, they typically become unappealing to you sexually. So, getting rid of sex would also cut down on certain forms of violence.

I'd ban violence and then place a parental lock on any programming containing sexual content. It is for the parent to decide, not the entertainment industry, what their children should be able to watch.

sex. only because it dosent really serve any purpose. Violence is what makes a movie good. Think about horror movies with no violence. not good. movies without sex, wouldn't make much difference unless you are watching porn.

I guess I would ban violence. We see enough on the nightly news - don't need it in entertainment too.

Violence.

Sex is a pleasurable act, the co-mingling of souls in a dance of intimacy and trust.

Violence cuts the guts out of someone. Besides, you can always imply a violent act without truly showing it.
