Whilst I realise some of the deleted questions may by racially, sexually motivated etc etc, and others just provoking hateful responses, is it not a basic human right that we should ALL have the right to free speech and be able to voice our opinions?

I'm not complaining, just wondering

No, your right still exists. But the rules of decency apply here. Personally, I don't want to hear indecent, offensive stuff and most others don't as well.

Yes, you have a right to free speech and to voice your opinions. But you don't have a right to violate the beliefs of others or to say things that are apt to incite violence or hatred. You can not make racist or sexist remarks. If you want to do that kind of thing, go find a deserted mountain top and shout to the winds whatever defamatory and hurtful things you want to say.
However, when you are talking to other people, there are limits to free speech.
I am amazed at some of the rude and crude things that are said on Yahoo, and wonder at the juvenile and scatalogical comments some people make. But if they want to display their bad taste and poor manners, that's up to them. I can simply scroll past their remarks and hope that someday they will grow up.

It doesn't restrict free speech, but does restrict content which could be construed as racist, homophobic, sexist or otherwise offensive.

Free speech is a right, but not when you offend the population at large. There are ways and ways of expressing an opinion and making a point.

No, it's not a violation of free speech as there are rules of conduct set up by Yahoo! to use the site. Follow the rules and you won't be deleted.

I hate when there's a question that's not really breaking any rules but it is a touchy subject and gets pulled because of it, even though I really wanted to answer and read other people's answers. Some people are so selfish, if you don't want the question there, just don't answer it!

This site is controlled by a business. Not the government. The government can not prevent free speech, a business can.

If you don't like the tone of a question move on , skip it , shake your head and mumble. Everyone has a right to their own views! Just because you don't agree does not make it wrong! It just makes it different. Look up different it does not say wrong.

You have the right to free speech, but you don't have the right to have that speech distributed unless you own the company doing the distribution.

also, it is not a basic human right to have freedom of speech...to some, that is a totally foreign concept (no pun intended),
