tropo = 1 : turn : turning : change
meso = 1 : mid : in the middle
strato = is related to layers, or stratification
thermo = 1 : heat
exo = 1 : outside : outer

I don't know all of them off the top of my head. Thermo is related to heat or temperature- think of a thermometer, which measures temperature or a Thermos, which keeps things at a particular temperature.
Exo means outside. Insects often have exoskeletons- skeletons on the outside of the body.
