Think about it... The eraser is about 1/20th the size of the leaded wood. Therefore pencils don't believe you're going to make a lot of mistakes because if they did they would have amazingly long erasers and short leaded areas.

or maybe they don't think THEY are going to be used for lots of mistakes. . . so YES, pencils are optimists, but those big erasers they sell at any office supply store are most definitely pessimists.

though id have to say that with a pen having no eraser wouldn't it have more hope in its work? i guess the computer would be the least optimistic....

pencils are not optimistic at all this is why they have an eraser fitted to them because they know they are going to be required
unlike the pen(biro) there is no going back if you make an error
so they have to be the optimists out of the two of them

Pencils are inanimate objects, but perhaps the manufacturers were optimistic... Some pencils have bigger erasers than others, though!
