I am looking to transfer data (Files, music files, movies, word documents and other data from my desktop to my laptop - there is about 70gb of stuff). Could anyone tell me the best and the quickest way to do this and if possible, please try not to use too much technical jargon. Also finally my laptop has a hard rive of over 100 GB so space wont be an issue

Buy external hard drive. Move everything from your desktop there, then copy it to your laptop.

or Setup a home network, so you can connect to your desktop from your laptop. Then you can copy everything directly from your desktop without having to buy another hard drive.

buy a burner or buy http://www.alohabob.com/ get the ultra control version, the cheaper version is crappier. This software will allow data transefer of settings and installed software, not just files.

Or Just get a USB data transfer cable (which comes free with the above software) and research about doing it through windows, I beleive windows XP wil allow you to do this. This method isnt all that great so I hear. I have used the above software to transfer data from an ancient celeron to a new P4....the process wasnt really fast, as the celeron was so slow, but it did the job.

70 gb is a good amount of data. u can try by creating a wireless home network or the best way i prefer is to spend arnd 100 bucks and get an external hard drive. u can use it later too.

USB external hard drive enclosure. Attach it to the laptop after the laptop has booted. Then transfer the files. This will also allow you to use the external drive to store new files away from the laptop hard drive.

With 70 Gb of data your only real option in over LAN. The cheapeat is an ethernet crossover cable. The best simpliest way is to setup a router. You will also need two ethernet patch cables.
