Kurt Cobain wrote songs for himself. you could feel his emotion when he sang. he didnt do it for money or popularity. He liked small venues he liked small bands. he hated sell outs he didnt want to become famous. He kicked a fan who tried to rip his guitar out of his hands. You dont do that if you care about making money and selling albums. He cared about music. His chords werent hard his lyrics didn't always impress people. It was real he sang about his life he didnt sing about making money do chicks and bling.

The Clash. They did and said exactly what they wanted and never sold out, it wasn't about money to them. They inspired a whole generation and many bands around today recognise them as their biggest influence. Once in a lifetime band.

It would have to be The Beatles because they paved they way for many different styles of music and are considered legends. The most amazing thing is that they only recorded songs for about 7 years. Incredible.

Toots and the Maytals. This band started in 1958 and is still touring to this day. Toots coined the phrase "reggae" and has influenced so many bands today.

Musically it would be Deep Purple. I just dig their music and style and I base some of my stuff off their style.
If you are actually talking about applications to life I would say The Who. Even though they are not my favorite musicwise Pete Townshend is a great songwriter and when he is trying hard you can tell he means what he is writing about.

The DJ that inspires me the most.. (not everyone listens to just bands....).. Is a DJ from Minneapolis... his name's DJ Spree, and he rocks a party crowd the way no one else can.
