our parents probably believe we are mature enough to get into bed and therefore fall asleep. as in traditional story telling times reading the story helps the child fall asleep as a part of a routine, as we become less dependent on our parents for that routine, we do not need things like bedtime stories or our parents tucking us in.

Because your parents no longer feel an obligation to. When you but you'r child to bed you feel an obligation to stay in there room with them until they fall asleep since your allready there. But when there able to do it by themselfs your not in the room with them so you no longer feel the obligation to automatically stay around until they go to sleep. Unless they ask you too of course.

because parents get old. tired, and lazy. As you get older, they do too. Plus you can read by yourself now!
