I stretch every morning, but is there a special area I should concentrate on as a dancer? And are there excercises I should do? Should I do the usual crunches and push-ups and what-not? What do you suggest?

Get up early (or semi early =) ) every day. As soon as you get up do 10 LADYS pressups, 'cus mens ones make you get bulk. Then Stretch your arms and do 20 crunches. Work on bridges, strat by pushing your shoulders back as far as you can in a bridge, do 5 back semi-roles and do another bridge, this time trying to walk your feet into your hands. Do another 5 back semi-roles. Then stretch for splits, left leg, right leg and middle. Then go into a split and hold it for 3 minutes, do every leg like this make sure ypu stretch first well before going into splits. Practice your leaps and jumps now, as this is the best time to,as you are warmed up and stretched, but not cooling down. Then practice all the moves in your routine seperatley and get them perfect. Then do all your routines 3 times flawlesley, if you make a mistake go back and do it again. Then turn on some music and do a random contempry dance-this may seem really weird, and you'll probably look really weird doing it, but if you do it properly for one song it's as good as a half hour jogging.
Phew, it took me ages to type all that, so it better help!!!!! =) (don't you love my smily faces) Skipping is also really good.

Yes, Pilates is a great course of exercises for dancers to do as it focuses on the core muscles - some of the most important muscles for dancers.

You'll want to focus on your splits, and yes, crunches and sit-ups. Your legs and back should be as flexible as possible - without compromising strength. You want your whole body strong, but not bulky. Lots of reps with smaller weights are a great way to train.

You should also throw some aerobic/cardio into the mix to increase your stamina.

Aside from Pilates, the best workouts are to dance as much as possible, and to dance correctly. And make sure that you stretch before & after each session.

If you are a dancer, then the barr work and floor exercises in your dance class is the best place to start. Pilate's are great for stretch and control which never hurts a dancer (if done correctly). Running or other aerobic exercises work well, anything to keep your endurance up.

Mainly your legs. You can do 6 inches, spread eagles, wall leg lifts,or if you are on a dance line you could suggest doing at least 500 kicks a day. I'm the captain of my dance team & we usually do 1000 kicks a day everyday; & we do this for 2 weeks before we go to UDA.(dance camp). If you need to know what those exercises are just email me. white_gold_purple@yahoo.com

I would do ab exercizes like crunches , so you can have a lot of control, and practice kicks to build up the muscle in your thighs for better leaps.

It is not a good idea to stretch when your muscles are cold. Do pilates or take ballet classes and only stretch when your muscles are loosened up.
